The maiden edition of the Super Volleyball Championship has been launched on December 13, 2021, at the Trust Sports Emporium.
Teams of six will fight for honours in the men and women’s categories in a tournament that will be held on December 17th and 19th.
The two-day event will be held at the Gamashie Hall at the Trust Emporium, Accra.
Participating in the men’s category are Ghana Airforce, Ghana Army, Tema City, Ghana Police, El-Wak Wing and Ghana Prisons.
Teams competing in the ladies’ category are Ghana Airforce, Ghana Army, Ghana Immigration, Ghana Police, El-Wak Wing and Ghana Prisons.
According to the tournament organisers, the winners of the men’s and women’s event will receive the same cash prize which was not disclosed.
Aside from the cash prize at stake, medals and awards will be given to the best player, coach among other positional awards on the court.
The tournament is to unearth the best volleyball talents in the country and to serve as a platform for coaching to scout for best players for Team Ghana for the 2023 Africa Games.
Speaking to the media, the founder and organizer of the Volleyball Championship, Mohammed Aputeog said the tournament is here to stay and make it a desired sport for everyone.
“This is the maiden edition of this tournament, and we hope that it will be a stay. Volleyball is the fourth most popular sport in the country and we want to grow it to a point where it can compete against other sports in the country,” he said.
