UEFA have announced that the Champions League Round of 16 draw will be redone later today after a “material error” in today’s draw.
The mishap involved Premier League club Manchester United who were originally drawn to face Villarreal in the Round of 16, which should not have been possible as Villarreal qualified from the same group as the English club.
The Red Devils were then seemingly omitted from the teams which were drawn to face Atletico Madrid, despite being one of the teams eligible to face the Spanish champions.
They were eventually drawn against French giants, Paris Saint-Germain, in arguably the toughest tie of the round.
Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
