Man Utd may have exited the UEFA Champions League without a fight against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night but one player who could hold his head high was Fred.
The Brazilian has often borne the brunt of criticism from Man Utd fans whenever the Red Devils perform badly but he has become one of their key players in the last few months.
He was, once again, one of United’s best players on Tuesday night.
The confidence he has built up over the last few games was clear to see, particularly in one moment when he spun Atleti defender, Stefan Savic like a top.
The outrageous piece of skill might not have led to a chance for United but it definitely lifted the muted Old Trafford crowd, at least for a bit.

On social media, the move was the most talked-about moment from the game before Atletico’s opener.
Can’t believe we only paid £56m for Fred
