Karim Benzema’s hat-trick inspired Real Madrid’s stunning 3-1 win on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge and Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea has claimed that his side has no chance of advancing to the Champions League (CL) semi-final.
Tuchel’s side were pitchpoled by Benzema’s brilliant treble at Stamford Bridge and the shell-shocked Blues boss conceded the holders’ reign is almost certainly over, even though his side eliminated Madrid last season to play the final of the competition.
The defending champions, Chelsea could force extra-time with a two-goal victory in the quarterfinal second leg on 12 April at the Bernabéu since away goals no longer counting double in the Champions League stage but he still has no confidence in his team to gain qualification over Carlo Ancelotti.
Chelsea after the International break are defensively poor, they have conceded seven goals in all competition that is four goals were conceded against Bretford in the English Premier League and three goals in the battle at home last Wednesday night.
Tuchel who is in a process to legally divorce his wife has been tactically awful in football games which soccer pundit have likened his present marital condition to his poor performance in recent games.
He was interviewed after the game last night and he disclosed that, his team has to find their level back and they can’t qualify to the next stage of the competition.
Tuchel made an emphatic statement to the press when he revealed in a statement when he was quizzed if Chelsea could still go through to the semis of the competition, he said, “No. Not at the moment. Because we have to find our level back. I don’t know where it is since the international break. We can’t demand ourselves to turn it around if this is our performance. How many clubs won with what we need? Perhaps it is only realistic to answer like this. If we keep playing like this we will lose at Southampton on Saturday and then we will get hammered at Bernabéu.”
