The pre-season Top Six Tournament will begin on August 14 and run through August 31 in 2022, according to a statement from the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA).
In an interview with Asempa FM in Accra, the vice chairman of GHALCA, John Ansah, announced the start date for the competition.
In the interview, he said: “All of the matches will be played at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and we’re playing top 6. The competition will take place from August 14 through August 31, 2022. The tournament’s format will be revealed later. We apologise to Kotoko fans. We don’t think less of them, but we need to keep Ghana’s ambassadors to Africa very busy before they launch their African campaign.”
The participating teams in the competition are Asante Kotoko, Medeama, Bechem United, Karela United, Great Olympics, and Hearts of Oak.
Fans of Kumasi Asante warned the team’s management to withdraw from the competition on June 28, 2022, when the chairman, Kudjoe Fianoo, revealed in an interview with Kessben FM that the Ghana League Club Association [GHALCA] will hold a “Top4,” rather than a “Top6,” preseason competition.
According to a confidential tip acquired by the editors of www.atspo.com, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has changed its mind about participating in the competition from their earlier position of boycotting it.
Eugene Adu Poku, a well-known sports journalist for Oyerepa FM/TV, has revealed the management’s strategy for Kumasi Asante Kotoko ahead of the match.
The sports journalist’s Twitter username has the following caption: “Exclusive: Asante Kotoko to play Ghalca Top 6 with Coach Gazale’s youth team as the first team makes different pre-season plans. More updates soon.”
After a protest has been resolved, Abdulai Gazale will play in the Senior High School Milo Competition grand finale at Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium with T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School against Opoku Ware Senior High School.
