Ghana’s Chef de Mission (CDM), Frederick Acheampong, has praised the government for ensuring that team Ghana arrived early to begin preparations for the Games at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, which get underway this weekend.
At this year’s competition, Ghana will be vying for gold with more than 100 athletes competing in the various sports.
About 85% of Ghana’s team has arrived at the Games to begin preparations, according to Frederick Acheampong, this, he said, will aid the team’s acclimatisation and preparation for this weekend’s official opening of the Games.
In an interview with Wamputu Sports on Happy FM, he discussed the team’s preparations to date, Achee, who was well-known on the radio declared.
“About 85% of the team have arrived. The team has begun preparations ahead of the Games and we have access to the facilities for training which is very good on our part. We are waiting for the other team members to arrive from the USA and join the team. I must commend the Sports Ministry for ensuring Team Ghana arrives early to train ahead of the other countries. The government has taken care of all the costs in order for us to acclimatise and also get a first-hand feel of the facilities.
At the moment the astute sports pundit and a member of the Ghana Football Executive Committee have been away from sports shows on Kessben TV and radio since he is executing his role as Chef de Mission in Birmingham.
Frederick Acheampong said that the team has been released from pending issues as a result of the Minister for Sports taking on a supervisory role in London.
“The Sports Minister is supervising our activities over here. We don’t have any problem here and all the athletes are in good health.” In the interview with Ohene Bampoe Brenya, Achee added the newly created position of Sports Minister.
