The club’s CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah, hired the Brazilian Nilo Aguillar Effor for the position of International head of legal affairs for Asante Kotoko in September 2020.
Nilo founded Effori Sports Law (Effori Sociedade de Advogados), a boutique law business with offices in São Paulo and London that focuses solely on all types of international sports conflicts.
The management of Nana Yaw Amponsah has not commented on Richmond Lamptey’s suspension by the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee.
The Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee handed down a 30-month suspension to midfielder Richmond Lamptey in May 2022 as a result of his role in the match-fixing case involving Ashanti Gold SC and Inter Allies.
The Ghana FA’s decision revealed on Lamptey, “That Richmond Lamptey of Inter Allies FC is hereby banned for a period of 30 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d) (i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations.”
The proactive Kumasi Asante Kotoko management members gave the legal department the go-ahead to file Richmond Lamptey’s appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Nilo Effori, a seasoned attorney from Brazil, is the head of the legal team appointed by Kotoko’s management.
The possibilities of Lamptey being cleared to play for Kotoko in the CAF Champions League and the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League season are high given how frequently the shrewd attorney has prevailed at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
Effori has triumphed in over 25 cases at the Court of Arbitration for Sports for more than 100 FIFA cases (CAS), he has also successfully represented his clients in disciplinary, regulatory, contractual, and doping disputes.
In cases before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Basketball Arbitral Tribunal, FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber, FIFA Players’ Status Committee, FEI Tribunal, FIA International Court of Appeal, and other international sports federations’ decision-making bodies, Nilo has counselled clubs, athletes, agents, intermediaries, and international sports federations.
