The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has freed Asante Kotoko’s stylish midfielder Richmond Lamptey, through an effort made by Brazilian lawyer, Nilo Effori, the highest football legal decision body has removed the 30-month ban placed on him.
Richmond Lamptey will be eligible to represent the team as a registered player in the Ghana Premier League, the CAF Champions League, and all upcoming football matches, he was part of the twenty-one players who were banned by the Ghana Football Association following the outcome of an investigation into the game between Ashanti Gold vs Inter Allies match-fixing scandal in the 2020/21 season.
The opportunistic Kumasi Asante Kotoko management members authorized the legal department to submit Richmond Lamptey’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with the confidence imposed on the astute Brazilian lawyer, Nilo Effori, by the management, they were sure of good news for the club and the player.
Prior to their preseason trip to Turkey, the Management and Board of Directors of the current league champions enjoyed a tranquil and productive meeting yesterday, and on Friday, August 12, 2022, the Deputy President of the Appeals Arbitration Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sports, ruling in camera, has announced that Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey is set free.

The Deputy President of the Appeals Arbitration Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sports said,
The application for provisional measures filed by Richmond Lamptey on 2 August 2022 in the matter CAS 2022/A/9076 Richmond Lamptey v. Ghana Football Association is granted.
The decision rendered by the Ghana Football Association’s Appeals Committee on 13 July 2023 is stayed.
The suspension imposed on Mr. Richmond Lamptey is lifted with immediate effect.
The costs of the present order shall be determined in the final award or in any other final disposition of this arbitration.
