Asamoah Gyan, a striker from Ghana, informed John Bennett of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that he hopes to be called up for the World Cup.
In a video uploaded on the official BBC World Service Sports Twitter account, Asamoah Gyan, Africa’s all-time leading World Cup goal scorer, and perceptive sports writer John Bennett were both highlighted, in which he disclosed that he is most likely to emulate Roger Milla at the 1994 World Cup.
Following Gyan’s most recent interview with the BBC, former Newcastle United star Christian Atsu turned to Twitter to appeal when the video started trending widely on social media.
On Tuesday morning, Atsu, who played with Gyan in the national team for six years, tweeted, “Honour Asamoah Gyan with his last wish.”
Since participating in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON in Egypt, the 36-year-old, Gyan has not made an appearance for the national side, after suggesting that, like Roger Milla in 1994, he would rejoin the Black Stars in time for the 2022 World Cup, and he shot to the top of social media trends.
The creative editors of www.atspo.com then question Black Stars fans and all stakeholders in the national team, Should Asamoah Gyan’s final wish of playing in the World Cup be granted by Otto Addo?
Gyan has battled niggling injuries over the last three years, and his time with Ghana Premier League club Legon Cities did not go as planned, even though he hasn’t played in a while, the seasoned striker insists he hasn’t retired and has left the door open for a comeback with the Black Stars before the World Cup in Qatar.
Gyan, as cited in the viral media video, “Anything can happen, it has happened before back in 1994 when Roger Milla came back from retirement to play in the World Cup, but I haven’t retired yet, I haven’t announced my retirement, I have been out for almost two years now due to injuries and my body shutting down. I just need to get my body back in shape, so I have started training of course and I’ll see how my body reacts to playing competitive football. Talent-wise, everything is there already, so I just have to prepare physically and then we’ll see what happens.”
