Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has signed a contract extension until 2024, committing his future to the club just days after being linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea.
Vardy became the Foxes’ third-highest goal scorer of all time, with 164 goals, he was signed from then-non-league Fleetwood Town in 2013.
With the Foxes, the 35-year-old striker has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield, and Championship trophies, and he celebrated a decade at the club in May this year.
Since joining Leicester City in 2012, Vardy has gone on to establish himself as one of the world’s leading strikers.
He was a key figure in the club’s promotion to the top-flight in 2013/14, finding the net on 16 occasions, and played a vital role in City’s historic escape from relegation upon City’s return to the Premier League in 2014/15.
Vardy scored 24 goals in all competitions during Leicester City’s title-winning season, including 11 in a row in the Premier League, breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of ten with a superb finish against Manchester United at King Power Stadium in November 2015.
The English striker’s contract extension has made him the Foxes’ highest earner on £140,000 per week, and it means Manchester United head Erik Ten Hag has missed out on another target as Vardy elected to pen a new deal, implying he will likely conclude his top-flight career with the Foxes.
Vardy told LCFC TV following the signing, “I’m obviously over the moon. Once I heard it was something the Club was looking at, there was only one thing that was going to happen, and I was going to sign it. The decision was easy. I’ve been here long enough now that I feel like part of the furniture. I think you can see with the way we’re trying to play, the way the Club’s wanting to go, that it’s going to be onwards and upwards.”
