Accra Hearts of Oak, the reigning MTN FA Cup Champions, were defeated by Berekum Chelsea in their second GHALCA Tournament by a disgraceful score of four goals.
They surprised the fans and sports personalities in the nation when they unveiled the club’s young squad Auroras in their opening match of the competition against Medeama FC on Sunday afternoon and lost 1-3.
Accra Hearts of Oak won the FA Cup to play in the CAF Confederation Cup despite not placing among the top four clubs, forcing the competition’s organisers, Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), to change their earlier intention to include the top four clubs on the league log.
Accra Hearts of Oak was included by the organisers with the intention of helping them get ready for the continental assignment, as a result of this decision, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the reigning Ghana Premier League champion, officially exited the preseason and began making preparations outside of the country.
After they gave the opportunity to the junior side while the senior side is still preparing for the upcoming season, they lost their second game in the competition, raising many questions.
In light of the junior squad’s abysmal performance in the competition, which included seven goals conceded in two games and just one goal scored, the head coach, Samuel Boadu, has spoken to the media to explain why the technical team wants to field the Auroras.
He said, “What I have to tell the fans is that they shouldn’t be disappointed for not seeing us presenting the main team, the timing was not good for us to play that match that’s why we used the Auroras. With the appropriate time, they will see the team in a good shape and I believe with support and prayers they will be happy.”
Samuel Boadu, the Rainbow family’s coach, bemoaned the team’s condition in view of their decision to skip the GHALCA G6, the coach stated, “We are on the endurance and condition side of our preseason. The ball working started two days before the game and it will affect us.”
The knowledgeable editors of www.atspo.com have posed the coach, Samuel Boadu, and his technical staff with a massive question: Should the supporters accept the coach’s justification for fielding the junior squad for the competition after giving up seven goals in just two games?
