Gladson Awako, captain of the Black Galaxies, has appealed to supporters in Cape Coast to be at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium ahead of their final obstacle in the CAF CHAN Qualifies.
The Nigerians touched down at Kotoka Airport on Saturday morning, and it has been reported they are heading to Cape Coast to get prepared for the game on Sunday.
The team overcame the local Benin team 4-0 on aggregate to advance to the last round against Nigeria, which would be contested in Cape Coast and Abuja, respectively.
The captain and playmaker of the local team acknowledged that the task ahead was extremely demanding immediately after defeating Benin, he spoke to Original FM and said that games between Ghana and Nigeria are typically tough and competitive, but he was optimistic about the work ahead.
He told Original FM, “We are not done yet. We will continue to prepare well and do what we are supposed to do so that we can give Nigeria a tough challenge. Everyone knows how the Ghana and Nigeria game is. We have to prepare well so that we can beat them and progress in the competition.”
The Black Galaxies arrived in the nation getting ready for the Nigerians to secure qualification to the major competition in Algeria. The Black Galaxies played an international friendly against Qatar and lost by a score of two to one, with credit for Afriyie Barnieh’s consolation.
On the official YouTube channel of the Ghana Football Association, a video documentary of the Black Galaxies has been displayed, with the captain of the side giving insight into the readiness of the team ahead of the clash with the Nigerians.
Since we haven’t been able to participate in the competition in the last three editions after participating in the final when Maxwell Konadu was the head coach, he emphasised the importance of the supporters’ contribution in their quest to qualify ahead of the Nigerians.
Awako was emphatic on how the team could not make it without the fans at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, he stated, “We can’t do it without the fans, without them I don’t think we can achieve what is ahead of us, so we are pleading to the fans to come in their numbers on Sunday to come and cheer and also to give us that energy and that zeal we need to come over them on Sunday.”
