The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) African Club of the 20th Century, Kumasi Asante Kotoko is 87 years old on August 31st, 2022.
The club that won the 2021/2022 BetPawa Premier League is away in Sudan after having drawn its last preseason game by a goal stalemate against Al-Hilal Khartoum at the Omdurman Stadium.
They are expected in the country to continue with their preparations before their CAF Confederation Cup encounter against RC Kadiogo, and also the 2022/2023 BetPawa Premier League, which will be officially launched on Friday.
Kotoko has taken all media banner headlines on various social media platforms, former players of the club, former club administrators, and supporters, and, to some extent, Asantehene King Prempeh II, who took ownership of the team from Mr. Kwasi Kumah, and the thirteen young Ashanti men, have been praised.
The current management received a higher portion of the praise since the supporters have had good relations and communication with the management, citing the registration of the Fabu Census and other policies enrolled by the management. They deserved to be recognised for the good work done since they were given the nod to manage the club.
On this eventful day, they celebrate their 87th birthday flaunting these football trophies: two Champions League trophies, twenty-five league titles, nine FA Cup trophies, and three Ghana Super Cup trophies.
Their most hated opponent, Accra Hearts of Oak, who had their preseason Champion of Champions match postponed, joined other Ghanaian teams to wish Kumasi Asante Kotoko a happy birthday.
Interestingly, the two will play in week three of the BetPawa Premier League fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, so Accra Hearts of Oak will have the chance to wish them a belated birthday in no time.
It is very debatable considering how they have been positioned by their bitterest rival on their birthday and how the fans will digest the content of the birthday wish.
The editing crew established by www.atspo.com caught a glimpse of Accra Hearts of Oak’s official Twitter handle. It read, “Happy Birthday to our PADI(s) in Kumasi. The second biggest club in Ghana. IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY. Like “they” will say Hip ! Hip !! Hip !!!……”HULLLLAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY.”
