The technical handlers of the Black Stars have published a 29-man squad for their two friendlies in September ahead of the World Cup.
The list comprises Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, the shining light in the BetPawa Premier League.
At 7:26 am on the 6th of September, 2022, the official Twitter handle of the Ghana Football Association was updated with the Black Stars squad to play in friendlies against Nicaragua and Brazil.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has always been playing for the various Ghanaian national teams, his name is always associated with the best Ghanaian football squad that made a significant impact.
With two game-winning goals against Uganda at the Stade Olympique de Nouakchott, he powered the 2021 U-20 Black Starlets to the continental championship in Mauritania, bringing back a trophy that had been missing from Ghana’s cabinet since 2009.
He was most recently a member of the Black Galaxies squad that earned a spot in the TotalEnergies CHAN that will be staged in Algeria, he scored four goals throughout their qualification rounds to accomplish this incredible record for Ghana football, as they triumphed in a 5-4 penalty shootout at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Otto Addo’s decision to call him in is not all that strange considering that he was rewarded with a position in the team that competed in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June 2022, but he was not included in the team that travelled to Angola to face the Central African Republic in a 1-1 draw, nor was he used as a substitute in Ghana’s 3-0 victory against Madagascar at Cape Coast.
He was recalled into the team that travelled to Japan for the four-nation Kirin Cup tournament and played against Japan on June 10 at the Kobe Misaki Stadium in a very strategic move to work his way into the national team.
He was included in the Ghana Football Association’s provisional squad along with other wingers including Kamaldeen Sulemana, Issahaku Abdul-Fatawu, Osman Bukari, Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semeyo, and Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer of Bundesliga club Hamburger SV.
