Considering a disappointing start to the season, which included a 1-0 Champions League loss to Dinamo Zagreb, Chelsea have parted company with head coach Thomas Tuchel, the club has revised its official statement on its website and other social media accounts to reflect the decision.
Three months after completing his ownership of the club, Todd Boehly fired Tuchel, the new owner continues to serve as Sporting Director after replacing Roman Abramovich, and he also sacked positions like Director Marina Granovskaia, Chairman Bruce Buck, and Technical and Performance Advisor Petr Cech this summer.
The editors of www.atspo.com were alerted to Chelsea’s remark and have since published it, “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.”
Todd Boehly, the new owner, has invested £273 million in one window, a Premier League record, and has signed notable players such as Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The defeat in Zagreb was Tuschel’s final nail in the coffin after the team particularly newbies and substitutes put up mediocre performances during a disappointing debut on Europe’s biggest stage.
The former PSG manager was fired, but his lucrative achievement during his tenure at the club will not be forgotten: he won the Champions League within five months of taking over, reached four finals in less than two seasons, and won three major trophies.
He has become the first manager at Chelsea to reach more major domestic and European finals with The Blues in just 589 days since taking charge of the managerial position at Chelsea.
After the defeat last Tuesday night he spoke to Sky Sports and he said, “I’m angry with myself. I’m angry about our performance. It’s not aggressive enough on the ball, it’s not enough individually or enough as a team. Not a lot [of players are playing at the top of their game]. It’s obvious that we’re underperforming.”
The coach made this statement after his 100th match in charge of Chelsea, in which in his first 50 games they only conceded 24 goals, while in his last 50 they have conceded 53 goals, furthermore, the last time Chelsea lost three straight away games was in December 2020 under Frank Lampard, and this is the first time Chelsea has done so under Thomas Tuchel.
