Coach Samuel Boadu suffered his second defeat as coach of Accra Hearts of Oak at Nana Agyemang Badu Sports Complex. His side conceded an early goal in the second half, which was their first defeat of the season.
The coach made a few changes in the goalkeeping department, allowing Eric Ofori Antwi, the new keeper, the opportunity to keep the post at Dormaa ahead of Richard Ayi and Richard Attah.
He once more gave other new players like Yaw Amankwah Barfi, Yassan Ouatching, an international from the Central African Republic, and Eric Esso the chance to play in their first games for Accra Hearts of Oak.
In Samuel Boadu’s typical 4-3-3 formation, five of his players who played for Black Galaxies to qualify for Algeria 2023 started in his formation at Nana Agyemang Badu Sports Complex.
Early in the game, coach Boadu was given a caution. Referee Misbau Mohammed had to award the visiting coach a yellow card just under nine minutes after blasting the opening whistle.
On the day, Caleb Amankwah, who the coach preferred to Konadu Yiadom, was also booked but sent off late in the game, implying that Samuel Boadu is the first gaffer to be issued a card, and Caleb Amankwah is the first player to be sent off.
The coach’s dismal performance in away venues persisted. He only won three away games in the previous league season, with six draws and eight away losses. In away games, Samuel Boadu’s team conceded eleven goals and scored seventeen.
In a post-match interview following his first BetPawa Premier League away defeat, he talked to Star Times.
In reaction to how his team will respond to the defeat at Nana Agyemang Badu Sports Stadium, he stated: “It’s very bad to lose such a game. I think the boys did well. They created a lot of chances but Squandered a lot of chances, but it’s rather unfortunate that a little mistake cost us a goal. We are not down even though we lost the first game. We have to go home and prepare very well.”
