Ghana was hoping to defeat the all-time World Cup champions for the first time, but Brazil continued their troubling form by thrashing Ghana 3-0 in Le Havre, extending their undefeated streak to 14 games with their fifth straight victory against the Black Stars.
The contest provided the technical staff with an opportunity to give new players their Black Stars debut, and last Friday night, players like Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, and Iñaki Williams had their debut game for Ghana.
The first goal of the game was scored after nine minutes of play at the Stade Océane in Le Havre by Marquinhos, who escaped the grasp of his would-be defenders, with Raphinha’s corner met by Marquinhos, who rose highest and headed the ball with strength.
Richarlison de Andrade scored the game’s final two goals in the 28th and 40th minutes, with Neymar providing two assists. He now has 16 goals in 37 games for the five-time World Cup champions.
Both teams failed to score in the second half, especially after Otto Addo made a few changes to his starting lineup in the hopes of scoring a consolation goal after giving Kudus a new role following Ayew’s substitution.
Otto Addo said in a post-game press briefing that he made a mistake in choosing his starting lineup and that he was not pleased with the performance of his players early in the game.
Otto Addo made this assertion to the media after losing to Brazil: “I will start with myself because maybe the system was wrong, I have to look at it again and question myself, but I will also look at the boys. It is not always like when we play bad, it is about the boys. I take myself in that as well.”
