Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh, an Olympic Gold Medalist for Nigeria U23 in 1996, arrived in Qatar to prepare for his role as assigned by FIFA.
The defensive midfielder of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh, who featured in 54 appearances for Nigeria and scored two goals, is a certified member of the FIFA Technical Study Group, he was appointed by FIFA as a Technical Expert for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
FIFA’s Technical Study Group is in charge of publishing technical reports after each FIFA competition in order to analyse how the game is evolving, for which the former Borussia Dortmund player has been appointed for the World Cup in Qatar.
With 50 days to the ultimate competition in world football, as of October 1, 2022, preparations to make the tournament a pleasing one in recent times, organisers are leaving no stone unturned. The Technical Experts for the World Cup have begun their intensive training.
Oliseh had lucrative World Cup statistics during his playing days, and he will never be forgotten by Nigerians for scoring in France in 1998, when he ran and fired an explosive shot from 25 yards, completely surprising Spanish goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta in a group stage match.
Although his country, Nigeria, will not be in Qatar this November, Sunday Oliseh will be on duty when the World Cup kicks off, which he has already arrived to execute his duties after being appointed by FIFA.
Sunday Oliseh has become a diplomatic figure in Nigeria after football, he has handled teams like Club SV 19 Straelen and the CHAN team of Nigeria in 2015-2016. He qualified Nigeria for the CHAN tournament in Rwanda and qualified Nigeria for the group phase of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.
He became an author when he released a book in Nigeria titled, “Audacity to Refuse. Sunday, Oliseh. My Story.” The book cost 6,000 Naira in 2021 when it was officially unveiled.
