Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has described the 2014 World Cup as the worst campaign in his tenure as GFA President, explaining the key behind the Black Stars’ money delay.
Following Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe’s departure, Nyantakyi led Ghana to three FIFA World Cups: in 2006, 2010, and 2014. This was done throughout the course of his nearly 20-year tenure.
Prior to the World Cup in Qatar in November, he agreed to an interview with Kings TV on YouTube, he was questioned about his World Cup experiences.
The former President before Kurt Okraku explained, “2006 was successful, 2010 was also very successful. The most unsuccessful one was in 2014 – there were a lot of problems. The money to be given to the players was released from the Bank of Ghana into the Ministry of Youth and Sports account, but releasing the money to the players became contentious. “
The Black Stars of Ghana were eventually sent out of the competition in the group stage, serving as the worst performance of the nation under the leadership of Kwesi Nyantakyi at the highest position of the association.
The nation put up a splendid show at South Africa 2010, an edition before the 2014 participation, when they reached the quarter-finals, so the stakes were high when they qualified for their last participation in 2014.
This issue, which was raised by former President Kwesi Nyantakyi, resulted in the dismissal of veteran midfielders Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince Boateng from camp for alleged indiscipline.
It was reported in Ghana that Sulley Muntari assaulted Mr. Moses Parker at a meeting involving the Black Stars management committee and the players at the camp of the Black Stars in Brazil.
As a result of his suspected involvement in match-fixing schemes that were the subject of an investigative documentary, FIFA banned Nyantakyi for 15 years from participating in football-related activities.
