David Ocloo, the interim head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, told supporters after their friendly game on Wednesday that his team is well poised to reverse the score against Real Bamako of Mali.
This Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Phobians will host the Malian Cup winners in the second preliminary round second leg.
When Algeria’s JS Saoura defeated Accra Hearts of Oak by a 4-2 aggregate score at the same stage of the competition the previous time, they were eliminated from the competition.
Hearts of Oak haven’t advanced past the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup since they won the competition’s first edition in 2004, despite having participated in the qualification rounds in 2016 and 2021.
The squad must qualify at the same level that they were eliminated the last time, and they must score at least three goals on Sunday at Accra Sports Stadium, so the interim head coach has his work cut out for him.
Last Wednesday, after the team’s friendly match with Gap Soccer Academy at their new training facility, the acting head coach chatted with a group of media representatives who had attended the club-friendly match.
Hearts of Oak supporters have been guaranteed that the team will advance to the next round. David Ocloo declared, “This is a no-match. I can confidently say we can turn this around. We played well. We created a lot of chances, but no clinical. We are going to right the wrongs. They are beatable. “
When asked how his team is prepared for the hurdle on Sunday, October 15th, 2022, he was emphatic in giving an 80 percent, and the club will add the additional 20 by Friday to complete their preparation.
David stated, “I think we are well prepared. I can say we are 80% ready and the rest of the 20, I think by Friday we will be fully prepared.”
