A member of Accra Hearts of Oak’s team that won the Champions League in 2000, Daniel Quaye has revealed a plan to the list of players released by the head coach ahead of their return leg.
Daniel Quaye, a former Accra Hearts of Oak defender, believe the Phobians can overcome As Real Bamako and qualify for the second leg of their CAF Confederations Cup encounter.
Hearts of Oak were defeated 3-0 by Malian team AS Real Bamako in the first leg of the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup in Mali, courtesy of goals by Chaka Sidibé, Cheickna Diakite, and an own goal by Dennis Korsah.
The interim head coach released a 20-man squad on Friday afternoon, with Ibrahim Salifu included in the squad after being left on the bench due to injuries.
When he offered an interview to Happy FM, the stalwart former Phobians right back had to provide counsel to the 20-man squad.
He told Ohene Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports, “For now, all hope looks lost, and the best the players can do for themselves is psych their minds and be motivated mentally because these are the same players who were defeated in the first leg.”
Dan Quaye, after alerting the 20-man squad to work on their psych and mentality, later proved a point to the playing body that the team has once overturned a deadly scoreline in the past and has the motivation to repeat such historic moments.
“I know the management of the club would also play their part for these players to be motivated. This has happened before, so it can still happen.” Dan Quaye emphasised to the players of Accra Hearts of Oak.
The former player compared the talents present at the club at the moment to the players that won trophies for the club when he played during his nine years stay with the Phobians.
He said, “We would attest to the fact that the quality in our league now is low as compared to back in the day. We were seen as national assets and we had experienced coaches who were once good players so we listened to them.”
