Ashanti Gold Football Club’s motion on notice for an injunction against the BetPawa Premier League was scheduled to be heard today, October 14th, 2022, at the Accra High Court’s Human Rights Division.
The BetPawa Premier League remains suspended after the GFA said that the league had been halted until the dispute is resolved on October 14th, after Ashanti Gold Football Club attorneys served the lawyers for the Ghana Football Association with another motion.
The Presiding Judge, Barbara Tetteh-Charway, adjourned the case till next Thursday, October 20, 2022. She ordered that if there were any media men in court, the answer be in the affirmative.
The Presiding Judge instructed the numerous media people to excuse themselves from the courtroom but stated that the attorneys for both parties would brief them after the proceedings.
In their case against the Ghana Football Association, the Obuasi-based club has been granted permission to file additional information with the court on Monday, October 17, 2022.
The Ghana Football Association was at the court to appeal to the Judge to quash the injunction on the Ghana Premier League, but they will need the court to hear their plea on the next day of court proceedings.
Madam Odofoley Nortey Esq., Director of Legal and Prosecution, Mariam Serwaa Mensah Quainoo, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, and Executive Council members Nana Oduro Sarfo and Kingsley Osei Bonsu represented the Ghana Football Association in court.
Dr Kwaku Frimpong, President of Ashanti Gold, and his lawyer, Sammy Crabbe, were also present at the hearing in Accra on Friday morning.
At a hearing on Friday, October 14, the Ghana Football Association’s lawyer, Madam Odofoley Nortey, raised a preliminary objection to the supplementary affidavit filed by Ashanti Gold before the hearing.
The Ghana Football Association’s counsel claim that Ashanti Gold Football Club should have sought permission before giving further evidence to strengthen their case against the FA.
The fact is that the 2022-2023 BetPawa Premier League will still continue to be halted since the court failed to give a verdict on the injunction.
