Ghana international Iñaki Williams made a record for his club, Athletic Club de Bilbao, as he made his 350th appearance for the club since the 2013/14 season.
The lanky Ghanaian attacker became the club’s third-highest appearance holder, trailing behind Iker Muniain and De Marcos, who have 508 and 465 caps for the Basque side, respectively.
He scored the club’s fastest goal at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez last Tuesday. Since the beginning of 2019, he has scored three goals in the first two minutes of La Liga, more than any other player.
After a nationality switch to Ghana, it looks quite certain he will be at the World Cup for the first time, the 28-year-old will be part of Ghana’s squad to Qatar as the country prepares for its 4th World Cup appearance in November.
Iñaki noted that the Ghanaian side was comprised of a quality group of players. He commented in an interview with the popular newspaper publication Marca, “We have a young squad, but it is exceptionally talented. The majority of the players are from European teams. We have a lot of potential in the World Cup. This is not an easy group, but it is a highly strong one. We can take anyone by surprise. We are not going as favourites, which is a good thing.”
The striker’s form for Athletic Club de Bilbao reflects his preparation for the World Cup with the Black Stars. He scored his fourth goal of the season as the club drew 2-2 with Getafe.
He has scored a total of 77 goals for Athletic Club since his La Liga debut on 6 December 2014, his club lost against Córdoba when playing as the home team.
Just under 2 minutes into the game, the Ghanaian striker collected a fantastic chip-over pass from Ander Herrera.
With goals scored in less than two minutes, he has entered the ranks of some quick goal-scorers in La Liga. João Félix, Mariano, and Enes Ünal have all scored in less than two minutes, and Iñaki Williams has joined the team.
