Former Ghana defender Joe Addo has slammed the Ghana Football Association for putting their faith in “part-time” coach Otto Addo ahead of the World Cup, where the provisional list is scheduled to be announced soon.
Many Ghanaians appear to have sent comments to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in order for a decision to be made on the dilemma of head coach Otto Addo doubling as an assistant coach at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
Patrick Osei Agyemang of Fire-for-Fire fame, also known as Country Man Songo, has been a vocal opponent of the GFA’s choice to have Otto Addo work as a part-time manager for the Black Stars on multiple occasions.
After missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia, the Black Stars have returned. Ghana has been assigned to Group H, which includes Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
The technical team is led by Otto Addo and George Boateng, with George resigning as manager of Aston Villa U-23 to devote his whole focus to the squad at the World Cup in Qatar.
However, Otto Addo has stated that he would step down as Black Stars coach following the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Addo told Ruhr14, “As a national coach, I believe you should reside in the country for which you work. However, I intend to spend the following five years in Germany.”
The former defender, Joe Addo, is the latest to inquire about the situation of Otto Addo being the head coach of the Black Stars with double portfolios.
In an interview with GHOne TV Joe Addo said, “The Ghana national team is going to play the most important tournament in our history, the World Cup, we’ve done it three times, we missed in Russia, and we’re going there with a part-time coach? Are you kidding me in this day and age? Hell no.”
Joe Addo, a member of Ghana’s squad at the Summer Olympics in 1996, suggested possible changes to the head coach role.
“We have to have a substantive coach to go to the World Cup. That’s my opinion. I could be wrong but I cannot go to a very important tournament with an interim coach,” he said on GHOne TV.
