Derek Owusu Boateng, a member of Ghana’s U20 finalist team at the FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina in 2001, has urged for patience and support for the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Derek is genuinely asking for support for his teammate Otto Addo and his team in Qatar, having previously played with the head coach in Germany.
Derek Boateng, a former Liberty Professionals defensive midfielder, is the appropriate choice to rally support for the Black Stars and technical team because, based on the absorptive team of editors at www.atspo.com, Derek made his first FIFA World Cup debut on June 17, 2006, when he replaced Otto Addo at halfway in a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic.
Ghana is slated to play its opening match against Portugal on November 24 in Group H, as well as games against the Korean Republic and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2, respectively, before the 2018 World Cup officially kicks off on November 20.
Derek Boateng said, “It’s a young team so we have to keep supporting them, let them grow. Sometimes things get worse before they get better. We have to have patience with the team.”
Derek also emphasised the need for support for the newly formed technical team under Otto Addo and urged Ghanaians to unite as a country as they prepare to depart for Qatar.
“It’s a young team, and we all know we have a new coach. We have to have patience with them… it’s not going to be easy; we all know that it’s tough. It’s a World Cup, so we all have to come together as a nation and support them,” he said.
Derek Boateng, a defensive midfielder, has two World Cup appearances for Ghana; he played in the Black Stars’ debut in Germany and was a member of Milovan Rajevac’s successful team in South Africa in 2010.
