The final 26-man squad was revealed by Black Stars of Ghana head coach Otto Addo on Monday, November 14, 2022.
Two local players made up the final list that was made public, primarily Hearts of Oak’s Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Asante Kotoko’s most dependable goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim.
Former Ghana international Dan Quaye, who was a local player for the Black Stars in their debut appearance in 2006, has revealed that he did not receive the full $50,000 appearance fee.
The fervent and earnest editors of www.atspo.com have questioned all stakeholders associated with the Black Stars over whether the two current local-based players will receive the full sum of the appearance fee and not be reduced as Daniel Quaye has highlighted.
Ghana was making its maiden appearance on the world stage in 2006, and the players were eligible for a $50,000 bonus, which included both local and foreign-based players.
Dan Quaye alleges that the officials in Germany during that time reduced all of the domestic players’ appearance fees by $10,000 without providing any justification.
Two days after the official announcement of the final 26 players for Qatar 2022, former Black Stars right-back Dan Quaye confessed that he and two local players, Sheila Illiasu and Habib Mohammed, had their remuneration slashed. This was revealed in an interview with Happy FM.
“The only thing they did to disturb us was that we the local players had our appearance fees slashed, but the foreign-based players had their monies intact,” he told Ohene Bampoe-Brenya of Happy Sports. “I got $40,000 out of the $50,000, but the foreign-based players received the full amount of $50,000.”
Dan Quaye also clarified on the show that local players have typically been a member of the team at any competition in which Ghana has competed and that local players should speak up anytime their income is decreased.
He indicated, “They didn’t give us any reason why they reduced the money. They are supposed to treat all of us equally. They are professionals and have more money. The same thing happened in 2014. I urge all other local players to be bold and come out.”
Dan Quaye’s final assertion on the two local-based players called by Otto Addo was that “Afriyie Barnieh and Ibrahim Danlad will also suffer the same thing. No matter what.”
