Accra Hearts of Oak, the MTN FA Cup champions, have parted ways with defender Mohammed Alhassan, who had almost a year left on his contract.
After the two parties were unable to agree on a contract extension, it was decided to mutually terminate the former WAFA defender’s agreement.
The central defender for the rainbow outfit has only featured in a game under the new gaffer at the club, Slavko Matic, who used Mohammed Alhassan in a Premier League match against Accra Lions at Accra Sports Stadium on November 17, 2022, which they won by 3-1.
According to Ghanaian media reports, Slavko Matic was dissatisfied with the performances of Mohammed Alhassan, Junior Kaaba, and Mohammed Alhassan. As a result, management felt it necessary to terminate the players’ contracts.
According to www.atspo.com’s interception of a portion of the letter addressed to the player, it reads, “With reference to the mutual termination of the employment contract agreement between the player (Mohammed Alhassan) and the club, the player is free to join any club of his choice.”
The 30-year-old was crucial for the Rainbow club when they won a double, the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup, in the 2020-21 season under coach Samuel Boadu, and he also played a significant role in the club retaining the FA Cup the following season.
Mohammed Alhassan joined Hearts after leaving the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA SC) in December 2018 and has spent the last four seasons as an integral member of the Hearts of Oak team, appearing in over 90 games.
Mohammed Alhassan had experience and was a part of Annor Walker’s Black Galaxies, which defeated Benin and Nigeria to qualify for the CHAN tournament in Algeria in 2022.
Which team will benefit from the experience of seasoned defender Mohammed Alhassan is a question posed to the management of various Premier League clubs by the obliging and inspired team of editors at www.atspo.com.
