Professor Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), reports that the organization has asked for $2 million from Ghana’s World Cup funds.
Simeon Kurt Okraku’s Ghana Football Association and the Black Stars brought home $9 million from their appearance in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Professor Peter Twumasi asserts that his group was instrumental in the team’s World Cup qualification and that they must now begin getting ready for upcoming tasks.
In an interview with Odiasempa on Happy 98.9FM, the National Sports Authority Director General emphasized the organization’s role in supporting the Black Stars during this critical stage of qualification.
Professor told Odiasempa on Happy FM, “The NSA contributed immensely to the Black Stars’ being able to qualify for the World Cup and even the AFCON, preparation-wise.”
Since other continental assignments are scheduled, the NSA boss is adamant that the authority carry out significant activities at various stadiums.
“All we are saying is that $2 million from the World Cup, so we can also prepare for other major activities to take place because we will soon play AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, so we need to prepare,” he said in an interview with Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports.
Professor Peter Twumasi clarified the state of the country’s stadiums and sporting centers, including whether they would be ready for major sporting events and the need for the Ghana Football Association to pay the stated amount.
He clarified, “The responsibilities of the NSA are many, and we operate nationwide and take care of all sporting activities in the country. The NSA handles all developments and promotions, infrastructure, and everything else needed for any sports activities in the country. We have seen the Accra Sports Stadium, for instance, undergo some renovations under the leadership of His Excellency President Nana Akufo Addo, but there is more to be done.”
The low fan turnout at various stadiums was raised by Professor Peter Twumasi, who cited that the revenues generated by clubs are not encouraging.
He divulged, “There is a lot to be done, and monies earned from GPL clubs are not enough to run affairs; monies budgeted for NSA from the national budget are not enough, so we need everyone’s support.”
