Francis Amuzu the son of former Black Satellites player Theophilus Amuzu, who was born in Ghana, has reportedly switched his nationality to Ghana.
Francis Amuzu, a winger for Anderlecht, has chosen Ghana as his new country of citizenship instead of Belgium.
Amuzu, who currently plays for Anderlecht, reportedly switched to Ghana from Belgium, despite having previously represented Belgium at the junior level.
Amuzu made his debut with the Belgium national football team in September 2021. He got his call-up for UEFA Nations League games against Wales and the Netherlands, but coach Roberto Martínez did not give him minutes in the matches.
The renowned editors of www.atspo.com have received concrete information from the sports department of TV3, specifically 3Sports, that Amuzu has stated in a letter to FIFA that he considers it an obligation to play for his mother country, Ghana, because his parents are Ghanaians, particularly his father, who plays for the Black Satellites.
Reports further indicate that FIFA has granted his request and hopes to have him make his Ghana debut in March when the Black Stars play in AFCON qualifiers and other continental assignments.
Majeed Ashimeru is the person who influenced Amuzu’s decision to switch nationalities because the two have a close friendship as teammates at RSC Anderlecht.
The winger was left out of Roberto Martinez’s 26-man squad that represented Belgium in Qatar; the Anderlecht winger chose to be at the World Cup in the jersey of Belgium rather than the Black Stars.
Anderlecht’s forward has contributed two assists and three goals to the Belgian top flight thus far this year.
Theophilus Amuzu was born in Accra, Ghana, to a father who played for Accra Hearts of Oak and was a member of the famous 1999 “Aben Waha” Black Satellite team, before moving to Europe at a young age to hone his skills.
