Mustapha Ussif, Ghana’s Minister of Sports, has suggested that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is close to appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars.
According to the sports minister, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is supposed to give his ministry a final report on who they have chosen to fill the position.
The engrossing team of editors at www.atspo.com has learned from a reliable source at Asempa FM in Accra that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has shortlisted three candidates for the vacant position of coach for the Ghana Black Stars: Héctor Cúper, Steve McClaren, and Chris Hughton, a former member of the technical staff.
The position has been vacant since Otto Addo resigned following the Black Stars’ group-stage exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The GFA will submit a report on the next appointment by the end of next week, according to Honourable Mustapha Ussif, who was testifying before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Tuesday.
The Black Stars will be back in action in March when the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers resume, which has compelled the association to act swiftly and begin the process of hiring a new coach, as confirmed by the sports minister.
“The Ghana Football Association is in the process of hiring a new coach, and I have personally engaged them, and they have indicated that a final report will be submitted to the ministry possibly this week or next week,” Mustapha stated to the Public Accounts Committee.
The Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori Constituency gave a clue as to the next assignment for the senior national team; he explained, “I know we have an assignment in March this year, and we need to have a new head coach, so he can start preparing for the AFCON qualifiers.”
He assured Ghanaians once more that the GFA is not hesitant to appoint a new head coach for the Black Stars of Ghana.
The minister expressed: “The country should be assured that the GFA is working to ensure that we get a replacement.”
