The Black Galaxies of Ghana will face their Sudanese counterparts in their second game of the ongoing 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the Stade Chahid Hamlaoui.
After losing 2-1 to Madagascar, the organisers awarded the Black Galaxies three points because the defending champions did not show up for the competition.
If the Black Galaxies lose tonight, they will be eliminated from this year’s competition, which they have missed the last three years.
And a win for Sudan earns them a qualification slot after their best finish at the competition was a third-place finish in 2018, while Ghana has been to the finals twice but has not won any.
Walker said in a press conference prior to the match on Thursday that his team needs to win in order to have a chance of moving on to the competition’s next round.
Annor Walker spoke to the Ghana Football Association’s communication as he stated, “Yes, it’s a must-win for us. We suffered a painful defeat to Madagascar in our first match. The defeat has disturbed our campaign, but we have a must-win game today to right our wrongs. We know anything aside from a win will not help us, so we are focused on doing our job tomorrow. We will go into the game with everything we can do to win [today].”
The leaked starting lineup backs up Annor Walker’s statement about making changes to his team that faced Madagascar in their first game, in which he stated that because something went wrong in the game, he will definitely make changes to the team.
Annor Walker chose four (4) new players to start in Thursday night’s game in Algeria; Augustine Agyapong, who scored Ghana’s first goal in the CHAN competition, had a place in the starting lineup; Sylvester Simba, Kofi Kordzi, and Jonah Attuquaye made the first team against Sudan.
Danlad Ibrahim, Augustine Agyapong, Solomon Adomako, Konadu Yiadom, Dennis Nkrumah Korsah, Dominic Nsobila, David Abagna, Sylvester Simba, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Kofi Kordzi, and Jonah Attuquaye are the participants for the match against Sudan.
