The Black Galaxies can defeat Sudan if they can control the ball for the majority of the game, according to Edward Afum, a member of Asante Kotoko’s 2011/2012 Ghana Premier League champions and Tema Youth’s league-leading scorer in 2008/2009.
Since they will be playing their Sudanese opponents for the first time in the competition, the Black Galaxies must defeat Sudan to increase their chances of moving on to the knockout stage.
The statistics that have been laid bare indicate that the Black Galaxies have not won a game in their second games of the competition; they drew 1-1 with Libya in their second game in 2009; Zimbabwe whipped Ghana by a goal to zero in 2011; and they again drew 1-1 with the Libyans in 2014.
Many Ghanaians have lowered their expectations for the Black Galaxies to win against Sudan at the Stade Chahid Hamlaoui on Thursday night.
Former Asante Kotoko player Edward Afum, who played in the Sudanese league in 2013, revealed how the Black Galaxies can beat Sudan.
Edward Afum, in an interview with Odiasempa on Happy FM, injected confidence into Annor Walker’s team in the CHAN Tournament.
Edward Afum compared both nations’ league competitiveness on the show and explained, “The Sudan top-flight league is very competitive. Comparing it to Ghana, their league is very competitive, and they are ahead of us in everything.”
On how the Black Galaxies can defeat their Sudanese opponents, he divulged, “If Ghana will win this game, they have to possess the ball more times, and our energy levels must be high. We must hold on to the ball and possess more than them.”
Afum added, “In our first game, things didn’t go as planned, and we were unlucky. We became complacent because we believed we were competing with Madagascar. Against Sudan, we will prevail if the team plays ethically.”
