Rashid Nortey, a former Medeama SC midfielder, was officially unveiled by Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the betPawa Premier League champions, on January 18, 2023.
After serving out his contract with the yellow and mauve team, the seasoned midfielder officially parted ways with them this week. Rashid Nortey has signed for the Reds on a free transfer after successful negotiations with Asante Kotoko, who had shown interest.
Rashid Nortey’s inclusion in Seydou Zerbo’s midfield will bolster the squad of Asante Kotoko in the club’s bid to defend the Ghana Premier League this season.
At Ackoon Park in Tarkwa, Rashid Nortey, who joined the mauve and yellow team in 2017, formed a midfield trio with current Kotoko players Justice Blay and Richard Boadu on the direction of Samuel Boadu, the head coach.
Justice Blay, Richard Boadu, and Rashid Nortey, three midfielders who were nominated for the best midfielder of the season at Medeama SC in 2019, have been assembled by chance by Nana Yaw Amponsah and Asante Kotoko’s management.
Asante Kotoko’s management issued an official statement to confirm the club’s acquisition of Nortey. The statement read:
“Rashid has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal after running down his contract with Medeama SC. Rashid comes with enormous quality and experience and will only improve our team and help us achieve our targets this season. We welcome our new signing and wish him all the best.”
Richard Boadu Agadas and Justice Nkuku Blay, Rashid Nortey’s Medeama teammates, shared memories of the talented midfielder and extended a hearty welcome on their respective Twitter accounts.
The curious editors at www.atspo.com discovered the Twitter accounts @BoaduAgadas8 and @JusticeBlay, both of which welcomed Rashid Nortey as a porcupine and shared a similar caption.
Blay captioned his Twitter “Welcome to the biggest football family @nortey_rashid!!! Let’s do it for KROBEA!” In addition, Agadas captioned his tweet, “Welcome to Ghana’s biggest club and one of Africa’s biggest clubs, my partner, @nortey_rashid, @AsanteKotoko_SC.”
