J.E. Sarpong, a seasoned coach of Ghanaian football, has advised Kwesi Appiah to withdraw his application for the open Black Stars position because he will not be taken into consideration.
Kwesi Appiah has reportedly applied for the Black Stars position as the GFA continues to look for Otto Addo’s replacement, according to Sompa FM/TV in Kumasi.
Coach Sarpong claims that the current Ghana Football Association (GFA), which Kurt Okraku runs, will not hire Kwesi Appiah for the position.
In an interview on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports, coach J.E. Sarpong advised the former Asante Kotoko captain to change his mind about Kwesi Appiah’s desire to lead the Black Stars for a third time.
J.E. Sarpong told Odiasempa Kwame Oware, “Kwesi Appiah should not involve himself with these GFA people. Looking at the circumstances under which he left the Black Stars, he should have advised himself that there are clubs in the country he can coach, but why is he always going after the national team?
J.E. Sarpong recounted the insults Kwesi Appiah received from Ghanaians during the AFCON in Egypt; he recalled, “In Egypt, look at how people insulted and abused him. So he hasn’t learned a lesson from it. The chances are that they will not give him the job. So why is he going there? These are the same people who fired you.”
The GFA is expected to name a new coach before Ghana’s next assignment in March in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and reports have surfaced that former Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah sent his curriculum vitae based on an interview with the association’s general secretary, in which he revealed that no local coach had applied for the position.
But J.E. Sarpong seemed cautious and warned Kwesi Appiah of the group he intended to work with.
