Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United lost their first game in the Premier League after the World Cup at the Emirates Stadium, losing to Arsenal by a 3-2 score after taking the lead.
Piers Morgan slammed Manchester United on social media for hiring an “arrogant manager” who sacked Cristiano Ronaldo and mocked the club for bringing in Wout Weghorst in his place.
Weghorst, who joined on loan from Championship club Burnley, appeared in both United’s loss to Arsenal on Sunday and their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace earlier this month.
Morgan made fun of Manchester United and Erik ten Hag for signing Weghorst, claiming he had never heard of the 30-year-old striker who had a difficult time making an impression in the Premier League in the 2021–2022 season.
Morgan claimed that the outcome at the Emirates Sports Stadium last night was a direct result of Manchester United’s actions and that Ten Hag’s appointment was a mistake because it forced Ronaldo to leave.
Following his shocking interview with Morgan, Ronaldo left United and joined Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Weghorst was signed by manager Erik ten Hag on loan through the end of the 2022–2023 season.
However, concerns have been raised about Weghorst, who struggled to establish his value while playing for Burnley in 2021–2022.
Weghorst’s contribution during the 2021-2022 season, when he had only 30 shots on goal and missed six big chances; additionally, he only found the back of the net three times before being loaned out.
Piers Morgan, the controversial British television host, tweeted shortly after Manchester United’s loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The attentive and sensitive team of editors spotted the tweet from @piersmorgan, the official Twitter handle of Piers Morgan, with the caption, “Congrats Manchester United! That’s what happens when you hire an arrogant coach who disrespects the GOAT so badly he leaves—and then replaces him with someone I’ve never heard of who sounds like an Austrian sausage.”
