After nine league games in the betPawa Premier League, which began on January 27th and concluded on January 29th, 2023.
Aduana Stars maintain their lead at the top of the table, but the defending champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, and Accra Hearts of Oak remain in contention, one point behind the season league leaders.
The obliging team of editors at www.atspo.com summarized the statistics after each venue concluded, with the final game of the week at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium involving Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Legon Cities and Bechem United kicking off the games for week 14 of the season.
Week 14 of the betPawa Premier League recorded 23 goals, of which 14 were scored by home teams and 9 by away teams. Kumasi Asante Kotoko scored the most goals this week, with five.
The seven teams that won in match week 14 were Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Accra Great Olympics, Real Tamale United (RTU), FC Samartex, Accra Hearts of Oak, Bibiani Gold Stars, and Bechem United.
Three away wins were recorded in the week, and Bechem United brought hope for away teams by being the first win of the round and also the first away team to win a game in the betPawa Premier League. Bechem United’s challenge was followed by Bibiani Gold Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak.
Interestingly, the only drawn game in the week was by Aduana Stars, who lost two points to Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. Aduana Stars drew 1-1 against Accra Lions at Nana Agyemang Badu II Sports Complex.
Emmanuel Avornyo, Clinton Duodu, and Hafiz Konkoni scored in the 28th, 58th, and 78th minutes after Alex Aso had gotten the first goal for Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium. Bechem United has never lost to Legon Cities, but their most recent defeat came on January 24, 2020, against Wa All Stars.
Bibiani Gold Stars extended their unbeaten streak in the BetPawa Premier League to ten games, trailing Aduana Stars by two points and Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak by one point. Michael Osei achieved a third away win for the Bibiani Gold Stars, defeating Mohammed Abdul Wahid of Tamale City.
Accra Hearts of Oak remained unbeaten in their last five away games in the betPawa Premier League despite being eliminated from the MTN FA Cup. Slavko Matic’s team is now the best-performing away team; they secured their fourth away win of the season at Ackoon Park with a goal from Kwadwo Obeng Junior.
Even though Emmanuel Keyekeh missed a penalty at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, Raymond Kwoffie gave the hosts the lead in the 14th minute. King Faisal lost their first game of the year under Jimmy Cobblah. Samartex did not introduce Samuel Boateng from Kotoko into the game.
Real Tamale United played their first league game against Nsoatreman and won by two unanswered goals; they won their third home game at home but lost away in the last league game. Dankwa Stephen Badu and Manaf Umar scored for the Pride of the Northern Region.
Accra Great Olympics won their fifth home game of the season, and Prince Afrifa scored his first league goal against Karela United, who remain in the Premier League’s relegation zone. The Dade Boys, after signing Christopher Nettey, seemed to contest for a top-four position but lie seventh with 22 points.
Dreams FC, with their recent form and a win against Berekum Chelsea at Berekum Golden City Park, looked motivated, but Kusi Pandrous got the only goal that ended the six-game winning streak of Dreams FC. The win made the Berekum side equal in points with Samartex and Dreams FC, but they still lie as the 9th team, where the two teams occupy the next two positions on the league log.
Tamale City took a lead against Aduana Stars when Samari Salifu scored, making it his third goal in three successive league games, but Solomon Aboagye equalized to help the league leaders maintain their lead in the 2022-2023 betPawa Premier League.
The defending league champions kept their chase at the top of the premier league when they thrashed Kotoku Royals in their first visit to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. As a consolation, Andy Kumi has demonstrated his familiarity with the venue. Richmond Lamptey, Steve Mukwala, Eric Zézé, and Solomon Sarfo Taylor scored goals for Kotoko. Steve Mukwala, after assisting and scoring two goals, was elected the Man of the Match.
