Mubarak Wakaso, the top scorer at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has stated the whereabouts of his Black Stars teammate and friend, Christian Atsu, following Monday’s earthquake in Turkey.
Wakaso, who is a close friend of Christian Atsu, especially since both shared the same residence during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, always designs the hair of his lost friend whenever the Black Stars of Ghana gather for national team duties.
Hatayspor, Christian Atsu’s current club, came to announce on Tuesday that their missing Ghanaian player had been identified, after being missing for 26 hours and thought to be trapped under the wreckage.
Hatayspor Board Member Mustafa Özat came out on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, to deny the earlier report that the Ghanaian winger had been spotted.
Mustafa Özat explained, “I received information that Christian Atsu was rescued from the rubble, but it was not true.”
Hatayspor’s Board Member also revealed the whereabouts of Christian Atsu and another sporting director, Taner Savut. He disclosed, “I gave the same information to the press, but at the moment, the information received is that Atsu and Taner Savut are under the rubble.”
Mubarak Wakaso, a K.A.S. Eupen midfielder, has issued a statement on his official Twitter account, @WakasoBobby, requesting that people refrain from disseminating untrue information and respect the privacy of Atsu’s family by only sharing verified information.
He wrote a caption that read, “Following yesterday’s update from the club that, Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts.”
“As you can imagine, this remains a devastating time for his family, and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian,” the Eupen Star said of the efforts to find his close friend.
The winner of the 2014–15 Scottish League Cup with Celtics, Mubarak Wakaso, psyched up Ghanaians to desist from relaying false information in relation to the state of Christian Atsu and advised, “Official updates will be provided as more information comes to light. Please respect the family’s privacy during this harrowing time, and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated news, as this will only hamper the search efforts for Christian. Thank you for all your prayers and support.”
