Jürgen Klopp has urged Liverpool to “react” when they face Everton on Monday night to restart their season.
In Monday’s Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield in the Premier League, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp needs his players to demonstrate why the club is unique.
A season marred by injuries and poor play have left Liverpool languishing in 10th place in the standings going into the match at Anfield, while Everton is fighting to stay in the league.
After the heights they have consistently reached since the Germans’ arrival in 2015, Klopp and his team are in an unfamiliar situation.
But this is the new reality for Liverpool, and Klopp is aware that victory over Everton is crucial, particularly after a humiliating 3-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend made it three losses and just one point from their previous four league games.
Jürgen Klopp explained to the media in a press conference held in advance of the weekend’s Premier League games how he anticipates a response from his players to spark their presence in the season.
Klopp told reporters on Friday, “This is not a time we wanted to have or a time we are happy to be in; it’s time we can show that the club is extraordinary. The boys have provided many memorable moments in recent years. We are fighting to change the situation in a better direction.”
When asked if the team appeared ready to respond, Liverpool’s manager expressed confidence that the team would react positively. Liverpool has only lost one of the previous 27 Merseyside derbies.
Klopp said, “Definitely, absolutely, all the signs are there, but when I say that, I know people will say, show it on Monday, and we have to show it on Monday. It’s been a good week so far in terms of aggression, determination, readiness, and concentration.
