Abdul-Karim Zito, who in December 2022 was reassigned as the head coach of the national under-17 team, the Black Starlets, and the head coach of Dreams FC, explains the difficulty in playing games against Asante Kotoko.
In week 17 of the betPawa Premier League, Dreams FC will host the defending Premier League champion, Asante Kotoko, at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu on Sunday, December 12, 2023.
Dreams FC has gone three games without a league victory and suffered a defeat to Aduana Stars in their most recent home game against the league’s top team.
Even though Karim Zito hopes to finish in the top four on the league table at the end of the season, the Dawu-based club has been inconsistent since the start of the 2022–23 Ghanaian top-flight league campaign.
Coach Zito, who won the gold medal at the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania in 2021, spoke to www.atspo.com after their match against Great Olympics ended in a draw.
Zito revealed, “Now, we’ve set ourselves an objective to be one of the top four clubs. This is what we are aiming at, and if anything comes, it’s a bonus.”
When he sends his team into battle against a rival that has firmly established a standing among the top clubs in Africa, coach Karim Zito anticipates the toughest of tests.
Dreams FC lost all six points to Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the 2021–2022 league season; they lost by three goals to one at Accra Sports Stadium and were beaten by two goals to zero in the return fixture at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Their results against Asante Kotoko the previous season synchronise with the statement made by their head coach ahead of their last home game in the first round of the season. Karim Zito told Ghanasportspage.com about the difficulty of playing against Asante Kotoko.
Karim Zito divulged, “Kotoko is a big club. I played Kotoko, and I know how intensive it is for you to play and coach them. I played and I coached them. For them, every match is a World Cup because you can’t relax. Every player wants to play Asante Kotoko.”
Karim Zito explained why games against Asante Kotoko are so intense: “When you’re with Kotoko, every match is like a World Cup to every club,” he said. “That is why playing against them is very difficult.”
