Michael Kojo Essien, the 2006 BBC African Footballer of the Year, shared his anxiety after receiving his UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A license certificates.
The midfielder, who Chelsea acquired for £24.4 million to become the most expensive player at Chelsea after Didier Drogba, was in the news in recent days when he shared a heartfelt message to Christian Atsu, who was involved in the sudden earthquake in Turkey.
A member of Chelsea’s team that won their first UEFA Champions League in 2011-2012 is said to have been doing his coaching attachment with Danish side FC Nordsjaelland for the past two years after completing his Licence B course in 2020.
Essien, the 2006–07 Chelsea Player of the Year, is reportedly pursuing his License A coaching certificate while employed by FC Nordsjaelland. Essien has since earned the highest coaching credential in European football.
Before his official retirement from football, Essien, nicknamed “The Bison,” scored 9 goals for Ghana’s Black Stars in 59 appearances and will be seen in the dugout alongside teammate Frank Lampard.
A sizable number of football fans predicted that because Essien had strong ball-strikers from a distance and good technique, vision, tactical intelligence, and leadership qualities, he would be able to publish average players who would follow the Chelsea legend’s instructions.
Michael Essien finished his career as the second-most successful Ghanaian player in Europe, with 13 trophies, including the UEFA Champions League, while playing for Lyon, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and AC Milan.
Michael Essien, the 2004-05 Ligue 1 Player of the Year, has updated his official Twitter account following a coaching attachment and a UEFA License A certificate: @MichaelEssien.
Essien tweeted, “Step by step, I am learning and growing as a coach. Happy to have completed my UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A licenses. Thanks to the family, @fawales, my tutors, my mentor, and RTD/FCN for the support. And a big thank you to Tom Vernon and Flemming Pedersen. @FCNordsjaelland.”
