Nana Sechere, the United Kingdom-based agent of Black Stars’ former winger Christian Atsu, provided updates on his time in the Turkish city of Hatay concerning the search for his missing client on February 14, 2023.
Christian Atsu, a former Newcastle winger, is still missing nine days after an earthquake in Turkey, with his agent pleading for more resources to aid rescue efforts.
The Ghanaian international was declared missing a day after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria last Monday, February 6, 2023; a series of reports emerged early in the disaster but were thrashed out, and reports came that he is still missing.
After relocating to Turkey in September of last year, the former player for Newcastle United and Chelsea scored his first goal for Hatayspor just hours before his province experienced a devastating earthquake.
Thermal camera reports showed that many people are still alive despite being buried under the collapsed structure where Atsu was staying before the devastating earthquake struck, which brought relief to Ghanaians.
The German wife of Christian Atsu, Marie-Claire Rupio, calmed the nerves of some Ghanaians when she said in an interview with the BBC that she was highly optimistic that his beloved husband was still alive, even with the longer period spent under the rubble.
Marie-Claire told the BBC, “His agent is in Turkey, and he is trying to get to the place where it happened. They know where the building is, and they are trying to rescue everybody. They know that there are people still under the rubble, but the problem is that they don’t have the equipment necessary to get him out. We don’t know where he is. I still pray and believe he is alive.“
Over 35,000 people have died as a result of the disaster, and some more may still be buried beneath the rubble. As a result, Nana Sechere was compelled to travel to the disaster site, where he provided an update on the hunt for Atsu.
Nana Sechere updated his official Twitter account with a series of posts that have been noticed by the editors of www.atspo.com.
Sechere’s Twitter handle, @iAmNana7, had three different pieces of content captioned at 1:27 p.m. with updates about his visit to the site.
Sechere wrote, “It has been nine days since the earthquake, and we still have not located Christian. I am at the quake site in Hatay with Christian’s family. The scenes are unimaginable, and our hearts are broken for all the people affected. During my time here, we have been able to locate Christian Atsu’s exact room location, and we have found two pairs of his shoes.”
