Sergio Aguero “revealed” Lionel Messi’s next club after revealing a private conversation he had with the legend.
The World Cup winner has been on fire for the Ligue 1 leaders this season, scoring 16 goals and dishing out 14 assists in 27 appearances. However, his contract in Paris expires this summer.
According to information that has reached the editors at www.atspo.com, PSG is desperately trying to persuade Messi to sign a contract extension to stay at the Parc des Princes. Messi will be 36 at the end of the current season, but there are no signs that he will slow down.
Negotiations for a new contract were expected to begin this month; however, Messi’s former club Barcelona and David Beckham’s MLS side Inter Miami are also interested in signing him.
Newell’s Old Boys, the South American’s childhood team, appears to have entered the race, according to Messi’s close friend and Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer, Sergio Aguero.
In an interview with the Brazilian web publication UOL, the Argentine striker revealed that the captain who led Argentina to their third World Cup title in Qatar has plans to play for his childhood club back home.
Aguero told UOL, “He is seriously considering the possibility of playing for Newell’s.”
Messi is set to appear in a testimonial for Maxi Rodriguez, formerly of Liverpool, with Newell’s later this year, which according to reports in his homeland “could be seen as a trial” as they try to convince him to return home.
Since Aguero and Messi have been friends for almost 20 years and frequently shared a room while representing Argentina internationally, this admission by Aguero has attracted the interest of top European clubs.
Messi spent five years in Newell’s academy and even worked as a ballboy for them before joining Barcelona as a schoolboy in 2000.
