Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League (PL) table to five points after defeating Leicester City for the fifth time in a row.
After dominating possession without reward for the better part of the first half-hour, Arsenal thought they had found a breakthrough when Leandro Trossard curled in from the edge of the box following a poorly cleared corner.
The goal was disallowed for a foul in the buildup with Ben White holding back Danny Ward, giving Leicester some solace.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s dinked finish was immediately ruled offside after the Foxes threatened on the break and had the ball in the net moments later.
After the break, the Gunners came out firing and earned a goal when Trossard slipped in Gabriel Martinelli, who swept in skillfully at great personal cost.
Martinelli was there to set up Saka for a straightforward tap-in after recovering from a potential knee injury, but the Brazil international was called for offside, keeping the game in Leicester’s favour.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s long-range attempt with the clock ticking down narrowly missed the goal, but the absence of clear-cut opportunities for the hosts allowed Arsenal to finish the victory with relative ease.
In the end, Mikel Arteta’s team performed well enough to earn all three points and solidify their position atop the Premier League standings.
The threat of relegation is still a real concern for Brendan Rodgers as the Foxes lose their second and third games in a row and have lost none of their previous 19 games against league-leading teams.
This season, Bukayo Saka has taken part in more shots after carrying the ball than any other player in the Premier League (38 shots, 18 shots, and 20 chances created). Saka has also attempted (96) and completed (46) more dribbles this season than any other player.
