Marcus Rashford, a forward for Manchester United, has now scored 25 goals across all competitions this season, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo did for the entire 2012–13 season.
Marcus Rashford’s 25th goal of a remarkable season was taken away from him for a brief moment, but he did score to seal Manchester United’s victory in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Before the big game in August of last year, the United Academy graduate had more hardships than most, but the 25-year-old has experienced a remarkable comeback under Erik ten Hag, who himself has revived a team that was on its last legs.
Given the shambles that the Dutchman inherited following Ralf Rangnick’s disastrous interim reign, few, if any, would have predicted that Manchester United would win their first domestic trophy of the season in February and that they would still be in contention for the Premier League title, the FA Cup, and the Europa League.
Marcus Rashford, the English Premier League’s Doctorate, has been crucial to their success this season by putting Manchester United and Ten Hag in a precarious position as the season enters its final third.
Few would have predicted that Rashford would be Manchester United’s star player this season, especially after Cristiano Ronaldo reestablished himself as the team’s talisman following his return from Juventus. Rashford, on the other hand, has stepped up significantly both before and after Ronaldo’s painful departure.
Manchester United is also unconcerned about the absence of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Rashford’s goal in Sunday’s final has now surpassed Ronaldo’s season total of 24 goals. Rashford has a ton of games left, and he has a chance to become the first Manchester United player since Robin van Persie to score 30 goals in a season.
Despite Rashford’s outstanding play, United lack attacking options because Ronaldo’s contract was terminated six months early. The team did succeed in obtaining Wout Weghorst on loan in January, but it is anticipated that they will approve a move for a top No. 9 in the summer.
Rashford has scored 14 Premier League goals to date, answering Ten Hag’s challenge from back in October that United had players who could surpass the 20-goal mark this season. And with his current state of health, he appears to be in good shape to take on the challenge again.
The in-form English striker made a caption on his official Twitter handle, @MarcusRashford, which was captioned, “A moment you dream of all your life! Scoring for the club you support in a cup final. That one is for the fans.”
