Graham Stephen Potter, an English manager who has been in charge of Chelsea since September 8, 2022, has spent 173 days in charge.
Graham Potter retains the Chelsea board’s support despite the club’s dismal run, particularly their recent defeat at Tottenham Sports Stadium, their first defeat in their last three attempts.
Although losing to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League the following week may put that resolve to the test, Blues owner Todd Boehly is committed to sticking with Potter.
Chelsea fans are furious with Potter after he has only won two of his last 15 games, against Bournemouth on December 27, 2022, and Crystal Palace on January 15, 2023.
Senior players are also worried that the former Brighton coach’s constant line-up changes are impeding their efforts to turn things around.
Since Boehly took over as owner, the club has spent more than £600 million on players, £323 million of which went toward signing the 47-year-old. These players include Mykhailo Mudryk of Ukraine, Noni Madueke of England’s Under-21 team, Malo Gusto, a teenage right back from Lyon, David Fofana, Joao Felix of Atletico Madrid, Benoit Badiashile of France, and Enzo Fernandez.
They have only one win in 2023 and have scored one goal in their last six games, leaving them in 10th place in the Premier League, closer to Southampton in last place than Tottenham in fourth.
When asked whether he has the backing of Boehly after their most recent defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, Graham Potter explained that the owner of Chelsea does, citing Mikel Arteta at Arsenal as an example.
Potter answered, “Well, there’s always that question, absolutely. And you can’t stop the questions. And while the results are what they are, I accept them; it’s part of the job.”
“We were talking before the game about watching all or nothing at Arsenal, and two years into Mikel’s reign, he’s close to getting the sack, and people are wanting him out, and it’s a disaster. And now things have changed a little bit, and that’s just the way it is,” Potter disclosed.
