Christopher Nakai Nettey, a former right-back for Asante Kotoko who returned to the team after leaving them in 2019–2020, played in his preferred position during the Ga Mantse derby on Wednesday night.
The landlords of Greater Accra Region, Accra Great Olympics, have stayed undefeated in their meetings against their tenants, Accra Hearts of Oak, whose last lost game in the Mantse Derby has been dated back to March 11, 2020.
Christopher Nettey has faced Accra Hearts of Oak five times in the Ghana Premier League since the 2019–2020 season, having previously played for Asante Kotoko and Accra Great Olympics.
The last time Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Accra Great Olympics was on March 11, 2020, with a 4-Zero score line, signalling the end of the Phobians’ dominance in recent Ga Mantse Derbies.
Christopher Nettey was used at right-back in the game last Wednesday night, making his fifth appearance against Hearts of Oak after being promoted from Attram De Visser Soccer Academy, in a typical 4-4-2-1 tactical play deployed by new head coach Bismark Cobbie Mensah.
Christopher Nettey was a part of the buildup that resulted in the penalty awarded for the goal. Yussif Razak received a pass from Nettey three minutes into the second half, and he set up Michael Osei for a challenge inside the penalty area.
Nettey has only ever suffered a loss when competing against Accra Hearts of Oak. When Accra Hearts of Oak finally won the championship trophy in that season on June 27, 2021, they defeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko which Nettey featured for the Porcupines in that game.
Nettey expressed his joy after the game against Accra Hearts of Oak last Wednesday. He was crucial in winning against their city rival on Wednesday night, to which he responded on his official Twitter handle.
