The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA’s) Director of Communications, Henry Asante Twum, has intervened in betPawa’s decision to list a Ghana Premier League game on their betting platform.
On Saturday, March 18, 2023, the betPawa Premier League Match Week 22 kicked off with two games, with Samartex FC hosting Asante Kotoko at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex in Samreboi and Dreams FC playing away to Tamale City.
Images and findings that emerged in the early hours of Saturday morning confirmed that there is a grain of truth in every joke, confirming that the betPawa Premier League game between Samartex Football Club and Kumasi Asante Kotoko was listed on the betPawa betting platform.
In an interview with Kessben Television, the Director of Communications stated emphatically that the Ghana Premier League is free to be listed on the betPawa betting platform, which raised the eyebrows of many Asante Kotoko fans.
On Kessben Television, Henry Asante reiterated that the Ghana Football Association is still bound by an agreement that the sponsor, betPawa, does not list games from the Ghana Premier League on the betting platform.
“Per our engagement, contracts, and the agreement we signed, the Ghana Premier League is not supposed to be listed on their betting site,” Henry Asante Twum disclosed in an interview with Kessben Sports.
The ace broadcast journalist Henry Asante Twum also revealed an action to be taken based on the information that has been uncovered, as it is not in line with what the Ghana Football Association and betPawa have agreed on.
Henry hinted, “We’re going to meet BetPawa and also meet the regulator, the Gaming Commission, as soon as possible. There are more betting companies that have listed the Ghana League without necessarily engaging. We have to always report to the gaming commission.”
The decision to list the Ghana Premier League games on the betPawa platform discourages Ghanaians from supporting the betPawa Premier League after a betting scandal was discovered in Ghana the previous season.
