Ghana’s Black Stars trained at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Tuesday evening in preparation for their AFCON qualifier against Angola.
The training section was done after Chris Hughton was officially unveiled as the coach of the Black Stars at Semenhyia Mall in Kumasi, Ayigya, on Monday.
Jojo Wollacott, who kept the goalpost for the Black Stars against the Super Eagles at Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium, respectively, missed the World Cup in Qatar and returned from a finger injury.
Jojo Wollacott, Manaf Nurudeen, and Ati Zigi were present for the Black Stars’ first training session at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and he was not able to end the training as he had begun.
When Chris Hughton had two separate sets of players playing at a half-park and Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper kept the goalpost at the scoreboard end of the stadium, the English-born Ghanaian goalkeeper was forced to sit out Black Stars training in Kumasi with a fresh injury.
Jojo was forced off at training since he got injured by being struck and injured by the moveable goalpost that was being placed at the center of the pitch where he kept the post during their first training.
Following further consultation with the Black Stars’ medical staff, the 26-year-old shot-stopper is expected to undergo a scan to determine the severity of his injury ahead of the doubleheader against Angola.
Manaf Nurudeen replaced Wollacott at the goalpost as the moveable goalpost was eventually taken off to be replaced by two erected sticks without a net and also without a crossbar until the training ended.
The Black Stars will face Angola in the first leg on Thursday, March 23, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with the return match scheduled for March 27 in Luanda.
Ghana is at the joint top of Group E with four points from two games, having won 3-0 over Madagascar and drawn 1-1 with the Central African Republic in June last year.
