At Accra Sports Stadium in Week 31 of the BetPawa Premier League, Medeama destroyed Accra Hearts of Oak.
Accra Hearts of Oak, after they lost to Samartex at Nsenkyire Park in their last league game, needed a home win, but Medeama sought the top of the league table for the first time in the season.
The Tarkwa-based club’s hopes of winning the league gained motivation after Aduana lost to Accra Lions before their game at the Accra Sports Stadium, where David Ocloo’s team recorded their highest goal defeat of the season.
After suffering a 2-0 loss to Aduana Stars on February 19, 2023, David Ocloo had won five of his previous home games in the league.
Derrick Fordjour’s stunning goal in the 16th minute of the first half gave the opposition the lead, but after 14 minutes, Salifu Ibrahim equalized with a penalty kick after Caleb Amankwah was brought down in the penalty area.
Vincent Atinga, Medeama’s captain and dependable centre-back, scored his eleventh goal of the season three minutes after the equalizer.
Jonathan Sowah, who scored in their victory over Bechem United and now has ten goals for Medeama in his first season in the BetPawa Premier League, gave the away team their third goal of the day.
Sowah completed his second brace of the season; he scored in the 84th minute, and the longest-serving player for Medeama Kwasi Donsu sealed victory against David Ocloo’s side.
In a post-game interview, David Ocloo explained his team’s mistakes that led to a five-goal outburst against Medeama at home.
Ocloo told StarTimes, “We gave them too much time and space on the ball, and in football, if you give your opponent time and space, he will punish you.”
