The former Rennes winger, who joined Southampton for a club record fee of £22 million at the start of the 2022–2023 season, has announced his future with the club.
When he scored his first goal for Southampton after a 4-4 draw against Liverpool, winger Kamaldeen Sulemana of Ghana spoke candidly about his future at the club following the club’s demotion to the Championship.
The former Right to Dream sensation Kamaldeen got a brace as Southampton shared an eight-goal thriller with Liverpool as they bid farewell to the Premier League after an 11-year stay, bowing out with an enthralling 4-4 draw.
Sulemana, who represented Ghana in three games at the World Cup in Qatar and was the player with the fastest recorded speed at 35.7 kph (22.2 mph) during the competition, made the team of the week in the 38th round of the English Premiership.
Following Southampton’s relegation to the second tier, Kamaldeen stated after the game at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday that he would be looking into other opportunities.
Sulemana, a relieved player after getting his debut goal in the Premier League since it has been that long since he joined Southampton at the start of the season, told the BBC that if an opportunity arises, he will explore it.
The winger, born in Techiman in the Bono East Region of Ghana, told the BBC, “I’m ready for whatever’s next. If I stay, I’ll stay and help the team bounce back. If there’s an opportunity to explore, I will take it.”
Kamaldeen Sulemana has joined two players of Ghana’s Black Stars, Daniel Amartey and Mohammed Salisu, as players whose team has been relegated from the English Premier League at the end of the 2022–2023 league season.
